Glenarn Garden

Glenarn Garden

It’s amazing that this beautiful little gem was empty on the day we went to visit last week. Glenarn Garden contains over 30 species of rhododendrons and a variety of magnolias, many dating from the 1920s. Some of the rhododendrons were hybridized by the Gibsons, who started this stunning garden, and in doing so, created a wide variety of flowers, unparalleled in Britain. Situated in a protected hollow, this garden contains a labyrinth of trails around old, blossoming trees through picturesque spots just full of color.

The garden isn’t massive, but nearly every square foot has something beautiful to see. I could go on, but I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

These beauties were all over the place and we stopped and sniffed almost all of them. At least, the toddler did.

The rock garden. Consisting of rocky paths up the side of the hill, it is full of beautiful plants and blooms and at the top, one can enjoy a stunning view of the glen and across the Loch.

This private garden has free admission, but a £5 donation fee can be left at a table in the yard. Guided tours are available and dogs are admitted but must be on leads. Our children definitely enjoyed it, but we maintained a strict trail-only policy and our little girlie had a blast exploring the glen. It was simply beautiful and I hope to return soon!
