Traveling by Train to London

#London Eye Horse Palace Guard

So, if you follow me on Instagram, you'll notice we went to London for a couple of days this past week. It was a monumental trip for several reasons: first, it was our first time really traveling with a baby, and second, it was my first time to London. (Spoiler: I LOVE LONDON!)

This post is mainly for those who don't travel by train very often... I know you're out there!

We traveled via Virgin Trains, buuuuuut, you can always travel via Caledonia Sleeper if you have money to burn and like the idea of traveling on a sleeper train. We don't. Hello, student budget. Anyhow, we found super cheap tickets down to London on Virgin trains and it was really lovely. As someone who detests air travel, train travel is great! (I want to do Paris at some point too, via the train!) In Scotland, our main source of travel is via train, but Virgin trains were definitely nicer and faster than the ones we use!

We were in a pretty empty carriage. We hopped on at Glasgow Central Station, found our assigned seats and then realised we could probably find a seat with a table in the unreserved carriage so we moved all our stuff down there and had a nice quiet ride down. There were multiple stops at various towns and cities along the way, but we arrived in London Euston around 4.5 hours after we left Glasgow.

We were not in first class, but next time I'd LOVE to upgrade. ;) We had basic seats, there was a shop on board with snacks and sandwiches and beverages. Sadly, Virgin needs to update their wifi, because it was apparently really slow and had to be purchased, so we didn't opt for that. They do have an app though that will connect to the wifi for free and that will allow you to watch movies. We didn't get that, but it was a good deal, cause free! The seats and tables were very clean (Scotrail does NOT have that feature generally). The bathrooms were also clean and our fellow travelers were of the quieter sort, mostly working, reading, or sleeping. The trip back up seemed a little bit longer because we had a few more stops, but it was so lovely to land in Glasgow, hop the train home and be home from London in around 5 hours. Sure, the plane would get us there faster, but we didn't have to deal with security, flying, or any other hassles that come with air travel. Trains are definitely the way to go!

Next up? Our quick trip and everything we saw! :) Happy weekend, friends!
