Saturday Morning Fishing Trips
Earlier this summer we bought a canoe, hoping to eventually take it down a river on a camping trip. So far, every plan we've made to canoe down the river has fallen through. Instead, we have started waking up before sunrise on Saturday mornings and taking the canoe to nearby lakes in search of fish. This past Saturday we drove up to Lake Jocassee and paddled around for a couple of hours.
We've had no luck yet with the fishing.
I'm totally not bitter. At all.
On the bright side, we got to a watch a gorgeous sunrise on the lake before all the other boaters arrived.
That helps. ;)
Apparently, Lake Jocassee was created when the valley was flooded in 1973 by Duke Power. Below these cool, blue waters are a lodge, a cemetery, and several other buildings, all of which are popular diving sites. Before the town existed, the valley was home to generations of Cherokees and the name Jocassee stems from a Cherokee legend about a young maiden.
I can't believe that I'd never been to Jocassee before now. The views were breathtakingly gorgeous, especially at sunrise. It's incredible the sights you can find nearly in your own back yard, if you just get out and look.
