Five Favorites in Acadia National Park

1. Driving around the park loop in Acadia. Always a beautiful classic ride and on a nice day, roll down the windows and enjoy the views! 

Jordan Pond, Acadia 

2. This was the first time I went down to Jordan Pond and walked around. It was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and I wish we had more time to hike around it. Jordan pond is described as an oligotroph tarn, meaning it is not nutrient rich water (see how clear it is? Up to 45 feet!) in a lake carved by a glacier. The pond itself is the water supply for the nearby pond house and Seal Harbor. Eat a tasty meal at the nearby Pondhouse, and make sure you try the fresh popovers! They're divine! 

3. Schoodic is part of Acadia, but not on Mount Desert Island. It is well worth the little drive over there, especially during an incoming high tide because the waves are just amazing. We climbed over the pink granite rocks, watching the waves come in, just in awe of the sheer power of water. It has been one of my favourite spots to visit and I always highly recommend it to visitors! 

4. Cadillac Mountain is an easy drive (although you could always bike up it and work off this popovers from Jordan Pond...) up and it affords some spectacular views! Definitely don't go up on a foggy day (we made that mistake on our honeymoon and it was so disappointing each time to get to the top and see nothing but a sea of fog). It is busy, so if you want to hike around, get there early to get a parking spot. 

5. Bar Harbor is of course the quintessential coastal Maine town. While busy and generally overrun with tourists during the summer, it does have some peaceful spots and some tasty dining options. We went with Stewmans Lobster Pound this last time, which was perfect because our dogs could join us out on the patio. Definitely pricey, but very tasty seafood! Also, highly recommend the shopping up and down the Maine Street for some perfect little souvenirs of your trip!
